Jabel’s collection of heirloom quality engagement ring styles includes modern, classic, and vintage style engagement rings. These rings are available as diamond mountings, three-stone rings, and gold solitaire rings. The collection is available in 14K, 18K, and platinum settings, and each are set with die-struck head settings.
When we discuss Jabel, we refer to their heirloom quality and die-struck method of jewelry making. These are but a few reasons we love Jabel. The company was founded in 1916, under the name Jabel Ring Manufacturing Company. It’s founder J.J. Abelson felt there was a need in the jewelry industry for better-quality rings. He applied his knowledge of die-struck jewelry, which was a standard method at the time; revolutionizing the technique to what we know today.
Today, die-struck jewelry is somewhat of a lost art form. Its laborious and time-consuming methods have generally been replaced with cast jewelry. The method begins by alloying the precious metal to exact specifications into gold and platinum bars. The bars go through a repetitive process of heating and rolling, thinning the precious metal to a thin sheet. The sheet is placed in antique machine presses that repeatedly strike the metal with immense pressure, compressing the gold into the desired shape. The dense metal is astonishingly strong and resilient, ideal for withstanding a lifetime of wear and tear; thus, we refer to it as heirloom quality.
What differentiated the Jabel method of die striking is that other manufacturers in the early 1900’s were die striking their rings front and back with hollow or near hollow centers. The sides matched up and their entire circumference was closer together. The solder points and hollow center weakened the rings. J.J. Abelson created dies that formed the ring’s bands in one solid straight piece. His craftspeople would gently round the band up into a ring eliminating the hollow band and need for excessive soldering. He also applied his die-struck method to creating the setting, or heads, that hold a ring’s diamond. The heads use specially crafted machine knives that cut the prongs out of a die-struck, slightly formed block of dense metal.
Jabel’s collection of die-struck vintage-style engagement rings includes several designs, including diamond mountings, three-stone rings, and gold solitaire rings. These engraved rings feature both die-struck patterns, rolled engravings, and hand-engraved details. Additionally, Jabel’s vintage-style engagement rings can be set with all diamonds or with gemstones, such as sapphire and diamond engagement rings.
Classic engagement rings are another of Jabel’s specialties. The styles range from simple gold solitaire rings to ornate engagement rings with three-stone sides. The designs offer classic styling that is universally appealing.
Jabel’s most unique collection are their flower engagement rings. These die-struck settings include a number of designs, with the rose and leaf, pink and green gold rings being the most popular. These rings have individually die-struck roses and leaves in 14K pink and green gold, respectively. The pieces are hand assembled by Jabel’s jewelers, then die-struck again onto a solid gold band, sealing solder points. Finally, Jabel’s hand engravers carefully add details that bring out the sculpted three-dimensional details of the designs. The result is engagement rings that are akin to a garland of roses. Also, these rings have matching wedding bands, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces.
It is important to note that Jabel is committed to being a globally responsible green jewelry manufacturer. They offer American-made fine jewelry, including engagement rings that are crafted with strict quality standards in their domestic facility. Domestic production allows them to monitor quality firsthand, correcting any flaws early in the process. This prevents the need for duplicate manufacturing which puts stress on our natural resources. It also eliminates the need for overseas shipping which consumes fossil fuels. Finally, Jabel has pledged to use only conflict-free diamonds that are compliant with the Kimberley Process and Russian diamond sanctions.
