There is a shift in the bridal industry as a whole, moving from the expected to the unexpected. The feeling of honoring tradition, yet carving your own path. As a jeweler, this has been a growing sentiment among our brides. No longer are they limited to buying the exact wedding band that matches their engagement ring. The need to conform is a thing of the past. And, after last week's unveiling of the 2017 Spring Bridal Collections at New York Bridal Fashion Week, it is clear that the movement is sweeping the industry as a whole. Today's leading bridal designers have embraced bridal freedom with a passion for beauty and creativity.
So, 2017 brides, this is your time! Throw out any preconceived notions of what you should wear and get what ever you want to wear! NYBFW's collections were alive with color everywhere, draping that flowed with ethereal grace and majestic royalty, silhouettes that stop the eye, and designs that speak of individuality. How did these designers do it? By going back to their fashion school A, B, C's and seeing them with new eyes...

#1 Bridal Fashion Trend For 2017: Texture
Texture is a critical element in 2017's wedding gown designs with a broad scope of interpretations including smooth silk faille, re-embroidered laces, billowing tulle, three dimensional floral details, layering of materials, and juxtaposing textures. Here are a few gorgeous examples:
Wrap around tulle skirt juxtaposed against floral bodice and skirt.
Dropped waist tulle train juxtaposed against high sheen pattern A-line gown.
Sheer layer over fluid nude tone underlay with three dimensional flowers.
Short shimmering flapper dress (perfect for a reception dress...or Vegas!)
A-line dress with ruched bodice and textured swirl skirt.
#2 Bridal Fashion Trend For 2017: Draping
A beautifully draped dress is rooted in an understanding of fabric and how it moves around the body. From flattering ruched bodices, to bold fashion forward fabric bows and all the subtle nuances of details in between, draping can turn a simple piece of fabric into a work of art.
Reminiscent of the old Tattingers Champagne advertisements, this fit and flare is figure flattering and has a gorgeous draped bow.

#3 Bridal Fashion Trend For 2017: Silhouette
From Princess Diane's grandiose ball gowns to the iconic fit and flare of the old Tattingers champagne ads, a skilled designer knows how to embrace the body and accentuate in all the right places! These are some of Spring 2017 Bridal's most iconic silhouettes:
With a waistline reminiscent of Dior's 1947 "New Look" Collection, this dress is feminine, statuesque, and iconic!
Trains are no longer extra long skirts, they will take on a life of their own in Spring 2017 with bold designs such as this one.

Hi-Lo gowns are all the rage in 2017, but this gown takes it one step further by layering materials with a touch of color...it has to be a Monique L'huillier!
With the freedom to marry whom ever you love, there is a need to redefine the word 'bridal,' so all women can feel comfortable, beautiful, and confident on their wedding day. And, designers, such as Lakum, have embraced this need by offering more bridal pant suits that are both unique, interesting, and lovely.
Flowers, lace, layering, bows...it's the 1950's with a distinctly 2017 feel!
Bows (big and bold), skin (creatively exposed), and playful textures make 2017 gowns as unique as the brides who will wear them!
