October Birthdays You Get TWO Birthstones!

If you have an October birthday, not only do you get a beautiful fall foliage back drop for your celebration, but you get two amazing birthstones to pick from; Pink Tourmaline and Opal!  Let’s take a closer look at each stone:

Opal

This is a silica based stone that contains up to 20% water trapped in its silica structure.  It ranges from transparent, to translucent, to semi-translucent and contains an infinite number of colors within its structure.

Fun Fact: The infinite number of fire and color within opals are reminiscent of a kaleidoscope and are believed to encourage creativity and inspiration in those who wear it!

Fashion Fact: Opal made a big splash at this year’s 2014 Emmy Awards when Michelle Monaghan wore a massive opal halo ring.

Pink Tourmaline

Tourmalines come in a beautiful spectrum of colors ranging from pink to purple, green to blue, cross sections that include pink and green, etc.  October’s pink tourmaline ranges in colors from bright vibrant candy pink to a deep, almost rhodolite colored, red-pink.

Fun Fact: According to legend the reason tourmalines come in so many colors is that they got their color from a rainbow they once traveled around the world on.

Fashion Fact: Not only did Michelle Monaghen wear that famous opal ring, but she also wore a massive pink tourmaline ring as well as pink tourmaline earrings.
